Customize pagenavigation

Hello,

I'm trying to customize pagenavigation. The css styling was no problem but now I'm looking for the file in which the spans are created. I want to replace 'start' 'previous' 'next' and 'end' with '<<' '<' '>' '>>'
I really can't find the right file for that. Can anybody help?
