Blank frontpage from VM2 category default for menu item [solved]

Using JoomlaXTC template for category page views only.

On direct link it displays without issues, but when VM2 category view is set for the frontpage, shows up blank.  Only when VM2 added.  Doesn't matter which core template is used.

****EDIT****
The other category views for the default J1.5 templates work.  So I know it is template related.  Just not sure if it is code in the template or VM2 looking for something that wasn't migrated.

I don't actually know for sure that it was template related but I did find a work around. That being setting a new menu item and making it the default in the menu list.

It still remains a question of this being due to VM2 and J1.5 interaction or the the template.

But at least there is a work around.
