blank screen on checkout for new users

from the cart-page click on 'check out now'/ 'confirm purchase' goes to mydomain/component/virtuemart/user/editaddresscartBT?Itemid=0. just a blank page, no code in code-view or error in browser. I've been using VM for years. Just all of a sudden I can't sell anything anymore. Please help!

This only happens when a user has no account yet. When a user is logged in and then orders, gets to the cart-page, select the 'agree to terms and conditions' and clicks 'confirm purchase' there is no problem.

I have installed 'plg_system_fatal_catcher' to check, but can't find anything related to VM.
