Not logged in until the page is refreshed

Please, I really need some clues to start looking for this problems (all of them probably related):

- When a user registers, and when the user clics on "register and shop", the page doesn't show them as logged in, until you refresh the page. 
- When a registered user that is not logged fills the username and password (once on the shopping-cart) and tries to "log in and purchase", nothing happens until the user tries a second time or refreshes the page.

- When a logged in user, clicks on "log out" from the shopping cart screen, a continuous loop takes place on the shopping cart screen.

Any ideas?? Thank you very much!!

First test with the std. Protostar template and all SEF off to see if your base install is working

Hello GJC:

- I don't have any SEF activated for the registration, shopping cart or payment screens.

- It worked perfectly with this template. The only difference is that I have upgraded both joomla and VM. But I don't know when this problem started to happen.

I tried also in different browsers, and same problem.
