Checkout pages (customize separately)

[Joomla 2.5.28/VM 2.6.14]

There's several variations for the Checkout pages... e.g.

- Cart is empty
- Regular checkout page
- Order completed, thank you page

I would like to add different Joomla modules to each of these. But I do not know if I can get access to these variations from the Joomla backend.
Is this even possible?

there is a module from spiralscripts I think to do this

otherwise it is detect the var in the url and display various positions etc - been discussed before on here
