View All from selected categories

I've searched the forums but couldn't find what i'm looking for.

I have categories setup like:
- Main Category 1
  -- Sub Category A
  -- Sub Category B
  -- Sub Category C
- Main Category 2
  -- Sub Category X
  -- Sub Category Y
  -- Sub Category Z

Now, If i set the menu to "Category Layout", it only shows the names of the 3 categories but not the products from the chosen 3 sub-categories.

How should i go about showing all products (in pagination of course) to show up in this main-category layout? Kindly include me the code reference. Thank You.

All products show for me in the main category layout in the next to be released VM version, VM2.6 - currently available as VM2.5.5  http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files

is there any hack that i could apply right now? I'm using the latest version available of virtuemart and joomla 2.5

Try assigning your products both to the parent and the subcategories

Okay. that's one way to put it. thank you

But if there's still a way out by hacking the core or otherwise, it would be great. my prof wants to choose see it done :/

We do not support core hacks. It can be done with template overrides, I would not know how to code that, but the commercialy developed overrides I am using to build a VM2.6 site show all products, whereas when switching to the default templates they do not all show.
