Overwrite plugin values of the parent - NO

Chaps, Vm seems to have a fundamental problem and im getting nowhere fast - i want to save custom fields on child products WITHOUT have to overwrite the plugin values of the parent - how is this possible - VM2 will not save custom fields in child products unless you tick this box, its driving me nuts!
Anyone, please help!
