blank screen after confirm order

Hi there

When I click on the 'confirm purchase' in the cart it should go to Paypal to pay but I am just getting a blank page.
The order appears in the virtuemart admin area but no email is triggered to the administrator or the purchaser.

Any ideas?

Joomla! 2.5.18, virtuemart 2.0.26d, joomla site/system PHP Version 5.3.28

For order emails check settings for Default Order Status to ........ in Configuration/Checkout.
