how can i create a sales coupon based on products?

hello all, i have a question that i need help on. we currently in our store created a coupon for 40 percent off which is working thus far. the problem is we dont want the coupon to be used on already discounted items. How can we create a coupon based on products?..so that if a customer is attempting to use this coupon on a item which we do not want the coupon allowed to be used on virtue mart will know to ignore the coupon code or give them a message or something that states that coupon can not be used on those products, or better yet virtue mart will know not to calculate the discount on those certain products (already discounted) in someones shopping cart?

i hope i am not confusing you guys
but we just have certain products that are already to low for us to allow the coupon to be used on and already having issues where customers are using this coupon on those type of products.

You can create product specific discounts with AwoCoupon:

The pro version allows you to excluded discounted items.

Do either of those work on the current cart? I can't tell with the AWOcoupon demo.

I want to be able to offer 30% discount  of product B when you purchase product A, all in one purchase, not coming back later and not requiring a coupon code.

By current cart you mean Virtuemart 2.0.22?  Certainly.

You can create a buy x get y coupon code for the 30% off, and then add it to automatic discounts:

That should do what you need.

I mean the cart of the current customer during checkout, so they don't have to enter any coupon codes.

I tried it in the demo but I couldn't see any discounts happening during checkout before logging in. I didn't try to log in as a customer, but I do want do see the discount before logging in.

You would have to setup an automatic discount:

Basically create a coupon you want to discount automatically, then add it to the automatic discount list.
