Error with paypal - orders failing

Hi.

I have a paypal error when i use the paypal option to purchase. it is sent in an email from the "shop" where i should be getting the invoice and it is sent to both customer and shopkeeper:

Error while posting IPN: Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP?, 388

I have just done a test purchase and i get this every time. (sandbox and live) The same server supports several shops all running the same system and they work fine. ssl is not enabled for sensitive areas, i have tried googling but cant find the same error anywhere.

what could be causing this error please ?

fixed it myself - removed VM AIO v18a and the paypal plugin and installed the older V16 and it all works great now - no idea why but dont care only a whole day wasted !!!
