Hi all,

I haven't used VirtueMart as yet, and am looking for a solution for my customer. So, I'm open to any version of VM and or Joomla 2.5 and above.

I need to following features for a new site:

  • "Virtual Products", that is, products that are a combination of other products, with a discount applied to the "kit". For example, I have a lid and a jar as individual products. The lid is $0.50, and the jar $1.00. When bought together, they are $1.35. (10% discount). When I change the price of the lid to $0.60, I want the kit price to change as well to $1.44 ($1.60 - 10% ($0.16)) without having to edit the kit price directly.
  • Import/Export for Quickbooks. I need to be able to export order/sales, customers, and products.
  • Import/Export using csv of products.
Does VM offers these features, even if it requires VM-specific add-ons?

Thanks!

1. Maybe you should look at using Product Builder or something similar with VirtueMart. Dynamic price changing would probably need a custom plugin but should not be impossible.

2. Quickbooks integration:  http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=109287

3. CSVI for using csv to maintain products

Greetings sloanthrasher,

The http://www.cartspan.com/ eCommerce integration for QuickBooks/VirtueMart supports the business process you have outlined; with QuickBooks being the complete master of the 'kitted' or 'virtual' product. With CartSpan, you will not require any additional add-ons executing at the cart level.

This functionality is actually referred to as 'Grouped Product' in QuickBooks, and your client is likely already familiar with it. You can read in greater detail how CartSpan manages transactions to/from VirtueMart in the following blog post:

http://www.cartspan.com/2013/01/12/use-cartspan-ecommerce-integration-for-quickbooks-to-leverage-grouped-product-functionality-in-your-shopping-cart/

To accommodate the reduced price for the grouped product, CartSpan utilizes an item custom field to hold the discount percentage to be applied.
