New Site but Having Menu Issues

I can't get any menu items to show in my shop, main/top menu or bottom/footer menu.
I have Vertex template for the main site and VP Promart template for my shop.
I found a Virtue Planet article in a forum earlier today saying: module manager > basic options > Show Sub-menu Items. I found three menus: Top / Main / Bottom in module manager.
Bottom = bottom position / in Basic options on the right set to bottom menu > click YES, menus still don't show
Main Menu = right position / middle of home page, on the right > when click YES - a huge stream of menu icons filter way down the page. Obviously not right.
Top Menu = Top menu position - Basic options set as "bottom menu" / doesn't have an option for top menu.  Can't see any changes happening.

Anyone have any idea?

This is a template problem. Can you check the names of module positions of the different templates? Maybe your Menu is not assigned to the modul position for mainmenu in your shop template.
