This was reported in earlier releases http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=93350.msg307153#msg307153 with a fix I couldn't get to work in VM 2.0.10.  Does anybody have a solution for VM2?

Hello,

You should edit category layout to accomplish that. You could place the categories display code after showing the products.

Thank you very much.  I was changing the VM default.php.  After several hours, I discovered I should be changing the VM theme default.php.  Once that was done, it all works great.  Thanks for directing me back to the solution.
