also in product detail page in where in the languages do I change the word manufacturer to 'Artist'?

Hello,

I take a look with firebug and i see that "bottom_pagination" class does not have any css, have you made changes to vm css files? May to have forgot any '{' or '}' to any class and file breaks before its normal end.
have you made any custom changes to the category/default.php file and the file "breaks"? did you try with vm default template?

You should use firebug extension with firefox to examine your CSS files which is responsible for styling on a template/webpage.

for your second question:

You can use j25 language override option that make the changes in override language folder. Is better from changing the original language files because every time you make a VM update or an update to language pack if you change the original files will be overwritten and you have to do it again, if you do it by override you can update language files without the need to change again the original files.
