error in show cart (shipping method)

Can anyone help out a virtuemart newbie.

I think I have an error in the configuration of my shipping method which is causing the show cart function to display a lot of code (see below). Doesnt say it is an error but clearly it is a setup problem. I have checked and double checked the setup (standard shipping method).

Any help gratefully received, it is driving me potty!

Looks like some debugging code.  Have you made sure that debugging is turned off.

Yes, Ive checked that. It appears in a div called "system message"
not sure if this is any further forward.
