security to stop spam registrations
« on: September 28, 2010, 11:51:29 am »
Hi Guys,

I know this has been spoken about a lot but Im recieving quite a large amount of spam account registrations on my joomla/virtuemart website - you know the drill, same first, last and user name!

Ive read qute a bit about it on the forums but quite a bit seems to be outdated. Ive added a condition to the sign up form so you cant have your first and last name the same but that hasnt stopped it.

Any other ideas? I want a simple way to stop it, possibly using a captcha form but not one that looks as horrid as this:

http://www.google.com/recaptcha

Thanks!

I have been using com_securityimages5 from waltercedric.com with his VM and latest Joomla version patches.
This is on a test site, and so far it has stopped spammers from registering.

All of my spam registrations are using a bogus zip code 12345 so I want to have the code reject this type of zip code, how can that be done??
