Hello,

I will like to migrate both Joomla 5.4.9 with Virtuemart 4.6.8 to Joomla 6 and Virtuemart 5.
Is there an order to this?
Should I just update Virtuemart with com_virtuemart.4.9.3.11254_package_or_extract.zip and after that update Joomla? Or first Joomla and then Virtuemart?!
Any good advises with this process?

Thank you

iWim

Do not update a production site yet!
VirtueMart 4.9.3 is a beta (from April 2026). You should use betas only for testing.

If you do wish to test VirtueMart 4.9/5, install a copy of your shop locally.

- Use WAMPServer/MAMP to create a local server on your computer.
- Create a backup of your shop with Akeeba Backup.
- Use Akeeba Kickstart + your backup to install your shop locally.
- Do the updates on the local copy.

This way you'll know what to expect during an update and if there are any issues that needs your attention.
And if something does go wrong, reinstall the backup and start over.
Your live webshop will not be touched and continues to work as it does now.

What I do recomend for now is to update to VM 4.8.4.
(Maybe do that locally first too: it's always good to test updates first.)

For now wait until the actual release of VM5.
And even when it's released, test the update on your local test site first!
