Is it possible to track abandoned carts in VirtueMart?

Hello,
I'm using VirtueMart on Joomla 3 and Matomo analytics, which works perfectly for other tracking purposes. However, I've been struggling for two days to set up abandoned cart tracking without success. I've tried different approaches: directly via JavaScript code and through Matomo Tag Manager, but none of them worked so far.

I've found several tutorials and methods, but none of them actually work. During tests, everything seems promising, but in reality, nothing appears in the analytics.

Is it even realistic to set up such tracking in VirtueMart? I managed to pull the total cart value from the cart page into the Tag Manager, but I'm concerned that tracking items and their names might be problematic. Order completion is displayed correctly, as the thank-you page provides a data layer where all the necessary details can be easily extracted.

Maybe a question for the Jumbo!: Would it be possible to integrate this feature into VP Conversion Tracking and dedicate a separate page to the popular Matomo analytics? I think many users would appreciate it.

Thank you very much for your help!

I have been using Matomo for years and literally everything can be tracked on it. I will never go back to Google Analytics. I don't have any problems with this - as you can see in the attached image - abandoned carts with all their contents can also be tracked

Thank you for your reply and encouragement! I would appreciate it if you could provide more details about your setup for abandoned cart tracking. Specifically:

  • Are you using at racking code, Matomo Tag Manager, or the Matomo API?
  • How do you manage to track the product names, quantities, and other cart details? I was able to create a tracking code for abandoned carts to track cart values, but I couldn't figure out how to measure individual products.

I've also noticed a significant challenge with firewalls and secure browsers, which seem to block tracking entirely for some users. This even results in missing some order data in the analytics. Have you encountered and resolved this issue?
