front-end product sorting

Hi,
i desperately look for sorting seetings for categories products, but i dont see anything.
My goal is tu manual sort product in category view in frontend. current situation of sorting is using some sorting criteria in select option in fron end template. This select i dont wanna offer to visitors, instead i want to manual sort products.

Is there is a way? Mayby same sorting as sorting of items in joomla! content manager ?

joomla 1.7.2 and vm 2.0.0

i know that i can set global sort criteria. What i need to do is set different sort criteria for different product category. Any idea?
