Create payment method from scratch

I have a problem, and it's basically that I am not a programmer.

I run a number of websites and have been running Joomla/Virtuemart for a few years now. With each major update I have spent money on upgrading many components and plugins, and now the money is starting to be a problem so I want to try and save some and develop a payment method from scratch for one of my payment merchants called AXCESS. They have provided me with a lot of documentation which I am frankly struggling with, so my question is this .

Is there a default "template" for a payment method, where I could place relevant information from my merchant and effectively create a customp payment method for Virtuemart  - currently testing with Virtuemart 2.0.12b. Should it turn out that what I am trying to achieve is indeed impossible for a lowly designer - I am able to offer graphics work in exchange for coding a solution to this if anyone is interested ?
