paypal beginners error

hi i am sure this is probably somewhere else in the forum but i can't find it..

i have downloaded and installed virtue mart 1.1.3 twice now once to install into a joomla 1.5.2 and a joomla 1.5.9 both give me the same problem

as i go to payment modules and try to configure the paypal option i set the mail to to my paypal account and take off the testing setting to activate it.. when i save the page goes blank each time..
what happens then is i have to change the url to my admin page to gain access to it again and its back to the default.

i tried looking into the database but was not sure if changing the email at business or receiver was a good idea.

please advise and thank you for a great product.

also where can i get information on writing a script for another payment module.. we have many locale ones in south africa including betterview and mygate which handles the South African rand currencies.. the use of dollars or euro's scares at time the unexperienced south african
