Account credit balance? (or gift certificates)

Is there a way to handle giving accounts a credit balance?  Basically I want to create a credit balance field for all users that they can use towards purchases if they choose too.  Even a gift certificate module could potentially work if there was one.

Hi,

My client is using Vodes which is a simple Joomla extension which you can apparently integrate to PayPal, but my client updates the credits manually and the purchase total is debited to the user's account.  I was testing today an enhancement to the processing of the cancellation of orders in ps_order.php which adds the total of the cancelled sale back to the vodes credit.
