Have to pay for shipping module or no shipping available?

SO I was persuaded to not go with magento on a new project. Now I am discovering that I have to pay for shipping modules Is that correct?

There are no shipping modules for UPS or USPS in the United States unless I pay for them?

And there is no way to configure my own shipping with them?     Is all this correct?

This really sucks. I regret no going with magento. Have always used it until now and very very disappointed.

I believe there are several plugins available for those postal services so search, but we have no need for them in Europe. Nothing to stop you writing your own plugin for UPS, but the company is a real pain to deal with.

I'm migrating some people from Magento (at their request) due the the stories of its sale and demise. The first client really likes the speed of the Joomla/VM setup, and his blog has also been moved from WP to Joomla to share the same domain.
