Cant find XML Setup File+SQL syntax Error(Joomla 3.4, VM 3.0.6)

Hi there,

I'm having a few issues when trying to install VM 3.0.6 on a Joomla 3.4 platform, when installing by uploading the zip (i've extracted the original zip to get the core and aio), or when installing from directory
Errors are as follows:

JInstaller: :Install: Can't find Joomla XML setup file.
JInstaller: :Install: Can't find XML setup file.
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '@@locale@@' at line 1 SQL=OPTIMIZE TABLE jos_virtuemart_products_@@locale@@

Joomla version: 3.4
VM version: 3.0.6
PHP Version: 5.3.28
mySQL version: 5.6

I've done as much digging as I can and havent been able to find an existing issue like this, so any help would be appreciated!

There are known problems with the extensions installer in J3.4 which are fixed for the J3.4.1 release. For some reason it only affects some servers. For workarounds see https://www.rsjoomla.com/blog/view/294-fixing-the-joomla-340-extensions-installer-bug.html

Just applied this fix, same error is appearing with no change.
