Bulk ordering customfields

Hi,
I'm using Joomla 3.4.0 and VM 3.0.6.2. Our shop has about 105.000 products and we are updating new products every hour via API (both adding and deleting about 500 products per week).
We have a problem with the ordering of our custom product fields. We can see that you can "drag and drop" the ordering in the product view. However, this is not a good functionality when you have an automatic update of products, it's more a fancy thing for a small shop. We have updated the field "ordering" in the #__virtuemart_customs table but it doesn't change any ordering in the view.
I have tried to find some documentation about this without any success.
Anyone who can suggest a solution?

I'm thinking about reordering this field by the field #__virtuemart_customs.ordering.
Anyone who can tell me where I find the select to do this ordering?
