Making a Product assembled from other products

The 1.5 version of my old site had the ability to create a 'collection' product built from other products already in Virtuemart. Here is an example: http://www.gringohome.com/verona-marble-inlay-package. Attached is a screen shot from the backend how this was implemented. The product could have 'blocks' that themselves contained 'products'.

My new developer says this feature is not available in Virtuemart 3.x. I do not know if the original capabilities was custom-built or it was a plug-in or something available in the market.

I have two questions:
1. Does anyone recognize this capability as a plug-in that was a available in the 1.5 world several years ago?
2. Is there something similar available now?

Looks like something that was specially developed, as I don't remember a VM extension like that. You could possibly do something similar using related products or an 'add multiple products' layout, available to those who sign up for Supporter Mambership. http://extensions.virtuemart.net/support/virtuemart-supporter-membership-detail
