@balai - totally agree

but my 2 pennies worth - have done a few Magento at clients insistance  - hated every minute of it -- maybe it's just me but EVERYTHING on Magento was a pain in the A unless you accepted their base install...

And you loose all the huge benifit of Joomla and it's 8000 + extensions..

sure other magento jockys will disagree

Like unfriendliness to do EVERYTHING'

Fronne

I had the same question when starting our shop so I spent some time in both before making a choice.
Finally the choice was made for VirtueMart for several reasons:

  • Magento's free version has limited options
  • Magento's server version is very expensive
  • Extensions for Magento are more expensive
  • You need an Magento optimized server enviroment for maximum speed
  • Both Joomla and VirtuMart are well supported by a big community

The only disadvantage for Joomla - VirtueMart is most extensions need some tweaking to fit in the template, some basic skills of HTML5, CSS3 and some PHP are needed to get the most out of your shop.

Cheers,
Franco, Fronne
