Update to 2.6 not working from 2.026d

I am running Joomla 2.5.19 using PHP 5.4.14

I have VM 2.0.26d running on a site that I am setting up a store on that has been migrated from a Joomla 1.5 site.

I have the store running OK except for some issues around registration.

However I have tried to upgrade to 2.6 hoping this would solve the problems.

The io files seem to have installed properly but when I try to install the main file it just comes back to the main control panel and Virtumart control panel is still saying 2.0.26d only installed. Have tried manual install via Extn Mngr but just the same after Akeeba performs a backup automatically.
Also now when the modal pop-up window option is checked it does not work and goes to the cart with nothing added. If I uncheck it goes st to the cart and adds the items.
I prefer the modal window :) Also the registration process does not work at all and does not take me to payment gateway, get stuck in a loop eventually getting a 403 error

I am thinking I need to reinstall - can I do this without having to add the products again - and which elements do I need to uninstall - just the component?

Or are there any other option I can try  :-\  :'(   :-[  ???

Do not uninstall - you will lose products, configurations etc.  It sounds as if you have the one page checkout loop which happened to some VM2.0.26d users & suggests to me a failed update.

Install the main VM component immediately followed by the aio component using Joomla's extensions installer - so they install over the top of whatever you now have.

Dear Jenkinhill

Ok thanks for that - so I downloaded again ver 2.6 and tried to install the component - it showed as uploading  then Akeeba went into setting  a restore point and went back to the Joomla control panel - nothing installed.

Then went and set to s system restore point before trying to update VM - same thing again.

Then tried a system restore point before latest Akeeba update - did the Akeeba update and unchecked the "set system restore point" in  the post installation config screen.

This time when I tried to install from the extn mngr - hey presto it worked OK and aio files  ;D - interesting to note if there is a conflict there.

However the pop-up module window is not working now - and does not add to cart when selected - seems to work fine if not selected.
Any suggestions.

I have categories selected as not showing in the home page as the client wants the links to categories showing in the body of the Store info - and have created a Category menu displayed in a module position under the main menu - this likely to cause any problems?

thanks

I suspect you need to turn off Akeeba before updating each time. It has previously been reported to cause problems when setting restore points.

You may have a JavaScript problem prventing the fancybox popup. See http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=119638.0   - but that issue if you cannot work it out should be posted on http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?board=114.0 and not here.
