Shipping Estimator

Hi!
When client wants to know the shipping price they have to login, of input personal data to get the available shipping methods and prices.
This makes a lot of potential clients not to buy, because they will not give you their personal data just to know the shipping prices.
A better approach is to estimate shipping based on the cart content, and the user select a country and zip code, so a popup window appears showing the available shipping methods and their prices.
Im trying to find a plugin to do this, but i can find any.
So im looking some info to make this myself.

Can you tell me how this is handled by VM?
As i can see, the shipping methods are included on the BIG array with all the information about the user, cart, etc.
But how does the shipping methods are included there? There must be a function that check for matching shipping methods within the given address.
Where is that? So with this i may be able to do what i want ¿?

PS: Please VM developpers / plugin developers, consider making this default or as a plugin, as the shipping cost is one of the most important factors to decide to shop from your store, or from others.

Thank you Ross! But that plugin is for calculating shipping price based on items.
I need a plugin that shows every shipping method available that match with a selected country and a zip code, and based on the cart weight and dimensions.
In short, i need the same functionality that VM already have, but without the user having to register or fill personal data.

Im considering paying an expert to develop such plugin. Ive placed my project on oDesk, Joomlancers, and Elance and received many offers from developers from India, interested in doing it for $50 or so.
