problems with sub/child products in combination with special fields

Hello,

we are using a plugin for special fields where we can link a car brand and a car model to all our products. The module on the front-end lets people select the car brand and model so that the user can filter all products specificly for the car they own. To organize our products more structured we use parent and child products. So for example we have a product called Angel Eyes headlights and the child products are all the available cars.

So now we are trying to link all the child products with a car brand and car model in the special fields. And here is where the problem shows up. once we edit the special fields in the child products and press save the system doesn't save our changes. What we tested is:

Parent products do save the changes but childproducts do not
it doesn't work with any special field not only the plugin we used.

joomla version 2.5.11
virtuemart version 2.024c
