I have partially found the answers to my questions.

Somehow I overlooked this Stripe plugin: https://easywaypay.com/index.php/payment-gateway-plugins-for-stripe-payments/stripe-for-virtuemart-2-basic-detail. I have not tried it.

However, according to TransFirst's website you can use Authorize.net. Although TransFirst will not answer any questions unless you are the account holder. They would not even confirm they use Authorize.net. I have not heard back from my client yet but he was supposed to get the necessary info from them.

For those of you looking for Transaction Central plugin I still have not found one.

Hi olesman,
We have released one plugin, just approved on the JED (Joomla! Extension Directory). It is already successfully in production in the UK. The Stripe plugin for VirtueMart 2 works for Stripe.com accounts in the USA, UK, Ireland and Canada with the different currencies. We will keep it up-to-date with Stripe rolling out in different countries!
