Payment method not showing in checkout page

 Joomla! 2.5.11
Virtuemart:  2.0.24
I am becoming increasinglly frustrated at this issue...
1 - items in cart showing on checkout
2 - step two: shipping methods are showing
3 - step three: Payment methods are not showing

Payment methods: Paypal and std
Payment methods settings: default all groups and all countries
Only one currency is available

I have posted in the appropriate forum and to no avail... someone please assist here
