Is it possible to have a check box under each product and then add to cart as a group? 

I am using joomla 2.5, vm 2.02a

I use a custom field plugin called Product Hook by BME Soft to accomplish what you're describing. Basically associate product id's within the custom field. Here's an example of the addons on one of my product pages:
