add to cart page not shoving until i refresh

Hi,

Whenever i click add to cart in my website nothing show in cart, i need to refrsh the page each time for it to show.
If i unselect Display modal popup upon 'Add to cart' it auto redirects to the shopping cart which i dont want.

Any ideas peeps?

There are many posts regarding the issues with Display modal popup upon 'Add to cart'   but no answers!!!
