Joomla 2.5 with VirtueMart 2.0 - English-French ecooerce site

Hello -   

I have employed a webdeveloper/designer here in the UK who says he uses Joomla 2.5 with VirtueCart 2.0

He said that inorder to create a fully bilingual (English-French) website I needed to upgrade to Joomfish.   

I need my customers to be able to switch between English and French throughout the entire website to do their shopping. 

Is this correct - do I really need Joomfish or is multilingual capacity already built in with Joomla 2.5 and VirtueCart 2.0?
