Linking custom fields to product display

Hi there

Is it possible to link the custom fields to the product display so once a customer selects a cart variant say, the product image changes dynamically?

In addition, is it possible to have the same feature using the custom text input i.e. text area depending on what is typed and then overlaid with colour?

I'm aware there is an extension Product Attribute Pictures however I'm currently using Virtuemart 2 and they're yet to develop support for this version of Virtuemart. I'm therefore looking for an interim work around!
