How to set default Country and remove from registration list

Our business is in the United States.  We do not ship to anywhere outside of the US.
How can we set the default for Country to be United States so that people who register on the site do not have to work through another drop down choice?
How do we remove that field from the registration form?

Hello,

You can go to VM BE->Configuration->Shopperfields.
But you shouldn't disable country field because will not working. You could just place us  virtuemart_country_id as default (may be inside template) and lock the field so users cannot change country (just a thought).
