Even though VirtueMart Category module is set for Registered users only it seems to make no difference to Google. For some reason they can still crawl trough all Virtuemart products and link to them. How is this possible if the menu category item is set for Registered only?

Hello,

I think what you could use joomla robots.txt and disallow the components, modules, plugins and themes folders which are unnecessary for Google!

an article: http://magazine.joomla.org/topics/item/195-Team-EaSE-Article-htaccess-and-robots-txt-files

Hope helps you out.

Thanks. I will look in to that - but since this is a WholeSale shop ALL products are for registered users only and should not be publicly available. Especially for search engines. I'm wondering why VirtueMart Category module does not seem to work for registered only. Or where else could Google break trough?

Hi,

May be you are using any third party plugins to crawl your site or export some XML files for google site map. You can use xmap for example to extract a specific xml file with what you want to be crawled from search engines. Also a product url contains and the category name for example in urls.
Last use some external tools to see what google or other earch engines crawled from your web site because what you see could be an old crawled. What you need is a little bit SEO i think and use correct the robots.txt file.
