install errors - either doesn't show vm / and wont' install Jinstaller-no xml

I changed my signature, it should post my versions.

I am trying to install a fresh download of the vm 2.0.2 (todays)  with a fresh rockettheme joomla 2.5.4 install

I have various problems, I've tried a few times.

On what appears to be a successful  install, I cannot get vm to show up once the menu item is set to a virtuemart front page - I placed a module at the bottom and that shows up, but nothing else.  Blank in the body, I did install the default products.  I've jimmied all kinds of things, its invisible to me.



So I tried another (with several others inbetween) 

I got this message:   Jinstaller cannot find joomla xml setup file     AND    jinstaller cannot find xml setup file

nothing to look at on this link, it said it created some files AND that the install was successful, but when I chose install sample products, it gave an error and going back to the administrator - it does not show in components menu

Fatal error: Call to undefined method JLanguage::getBackwardLang() in /home/.....path

I'm still trying, but no matter how far I get I always end up with a bunch of messages.

Those messages are jsut telling you the processes that have taken place. Blue is information.  I think you have "Enable debugging messages " turned on if VM configuration/shop

oha, I am sorry to say jenkinhill, that this are errors. It is hard to understand what is going on, I think AngelinaC forgot to tell us that she is doing an upgrade.

This is a vm1 one file. To avoid this it is the best to rename the old com_virtuemart folders of vm1 to something else and todo the install then.

The errors are strange

It tries to delete the slug, which does not exists and tries then to add the slug, which does not work, because it is still there. I cant understand, would be interesting to see your db via phpmyadmin or so.

No - fresh install of both virtuemart and joomla - trying to work with new programs before I commit data to them, but after a number of tries, cannot even manage an install.   

And the directions look SO easy!   Debugging isn't on.


In one of the other attempts, the same table "Tablename kefn9" also called errors.
