how to set NEW and SECOND-HAND product type in backend using custom fields

hi, i need to set 2 product types - NEW and SECOND HAND product. these types i need to choose in backend only, after choosing one of the type, the chosen type will be visible in product details page. is it possible to create it in custom fields. i preffer dropdown menu or checkbox. thanks for all.
