Product details not showing (fresh install)

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and to VirtueMart.

I've used Joomla for many years and know its ways... but this is the first time I'm using VirtueMart... and I'm having a problem making it work.

I'm using Joomla! 2.5.4 and VirtueMart 2.0.6.

Basically... I installed it following the instructions found on this same forum... created the categories... created products... published them... but maybe I'm missing something... because I can not see the products details on the front end.

The products are there... because I've installed modules that display the products... but once I click on a product link to go see the details... it takes me to the products page... but it is blank.

I'm working on a "test location" first... before moving the website to the domain it will be using.

I have spent the last couple of days searching the web and the forum for possible causes and solutions to my problem... but have not been able to solve it.

I would really appreciate some help.

just a guess

it takes me to the products page... but it is blank.......

in the past this could be caused by having bad code in the long description field

did you copy and paste descriptions from another website or with html from another source/site

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Actually... I did copy/paste the descriptions from the current website of the company...

I copied just the description text... but I know that some weird/invisible characters might get in the copied text.

So, I'll take a look at this... cleaning the text entered in the long description field, and making sure it doesn't have any unwanted characters.

Will let you know if this works.

Thank you for your help, but unfortunately... the solution you suggested didn't work.

I created a couple of new products, making sure this time that the text entered on the long description field did not have any unwanted characters... but the products page still shows blank.

Any other suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Looking at your url I only see the category module. No sign of the VM component - set up a main menu link and under Menu item typte select VirtueMart Front page

I have created the menu link to the VirtueMart Front Page as instructed... but when I click on it... the page is also blank. Just the category module shows... but no products or anything else.

There are known conflict issues with Yoo widgetkit - eg see https://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=98949.msg326516#msg326516 and others in the forum

To debug a site is not possible with SEF enabled, so I suggest turning that off and testing with a different template, eg Beez

Thank you again for your advice.

Yes... apparently the problem is some kind of conflict between VirtueMart and the Yoo widgetkit and template.

I tested the site with a different template, and everything works fine... all the products show with details, etc.

Now I have to figure out how to fix this... as I really like this template and would like to use it for this site.

Will run some tests and will report back if I manage to find a solution.

Unfortunately... I must give up.

I've decided not to use the Yoo theme I was using, as apparently Yoo themes & the widgetkit have several conflicts with VirtueMart.

I've read in many forums and blogs, numerous people reporting different kinds of troubles and conflicts between them.

I found some suggestions and methods to "fix" the problems... but some even require the modification of the VirtueMart core code... and this is definitely a deal breaker for me.

Too bad...

Yoo themes are very nice... but definitely not to be used on a web site using VirtueMart.

I too have a new installation of Joomla 2.5.6 and Virtuemart 2.0.6 and have issues with products not displaying, from the category. 

I have installed and set the system to multiple Joomla templates, including the default Joomla 2.5.6 templates, and none of them show the product detail.

If I set a menu item to connect directly to a product the product details seem to appear ok.

I have even tried setting the templates directly in the shop configuration, with no success.

Now I am new to VM 2.0.6 as I am used to using it under Joomla 1.5.x and have not had this problem before.  In the old version I would started to look for the flypage or browse page, but they don't seem to exist in this version.

Does anyone have any idea of what the problem maybe?

i dont know if this is the solution,   but it worked on earlier versions of VM 2.0
