Manual Product sorting doesn't work

I've installed version 2.0.8c and using joomla 2.5.6
I can't get the little arrows to work when sorting products for a particular order in the backend. Also, when I change the numbers for the order in the boxes and then klick on save, it doesn't work.

I have had an intermittent success, i.e. sometimes it will work with a single product (say 1 in 10 times), but never on a whole list of products.

Thanks for the tip, but that isn't the problem. The problem is that I cannot systematically define the order I want the products to be in. When I number the products 1 say 8 and then save that order, it won't stay in that order.

The thread you pointed me to is about displaying a specific number of products on the frontend - that part works fine for me.
