How to hide Child products in category view

I have created a parent product with child products/variants for color and size - width stock control. How can I hide the variants in the category view ??

To hide a child product from the category view, you just have to delete the category value from its "Product categories" field in Back-End.

What i would like to know is how could someone hide a child product from the "Search" function.
For example i have a product "T-Shirt 4711" with 3 children products for the sizes of the T-shirt (Small, Medium, Large).

How can i hide the children when the shopper makes a search with the key word "T-shirt" so that the 3 children products do not show among the products found (the father product is enough to be shown in the results).
