the suggested path is to a subdomain and i cant' make a directory over there, what now?

It should just be a directory off the joomla root that is suggested. In any case, you can make it where you like as long as you enter the path. See http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=98633.0

@jenkinhill, i read your post in http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=98633.0 and for me, it didn't work, virtuemart suggests me a root what i used and still i get the same "error".
