Akeeba live update search for file modification i guewss so basicaly from com_virtuemart.2.0.2_ext_aio.zip it finds  com_virtuemart.2.0.4_ext_aio.zip file.

If you unzip that file and go to install.xml you will see this:

Maybe the virtuemart team forget to place a 4 up there since version 2.0.3. was never released.
