after update I can not add categories

I did the new update 2.0.4 through the back end, after installing the latest update I am unable to add new categories. once I try to add a new category I get redirected to the backend dashboard and when I go to check if the category has been add it is not their. I am using joomla 1.5.23 thanks for any help in advance.
