Can shipment type automatically adjust when items added or removed from cart?

Since the built in shipping in VM 2.0 is based on weight, is there any way to have it automatically switch between one shipping rate to another (either less or more money) when items are put in or taken out of a cart? Currently it removes the type of shipping when things are added or removed from the cart.
