doubled images URL (images do not display)

I have made the update from 1.1.9 to 2.0.20b.

From admin: when I go to item I'm getting the following error: "VmError: Couldnt create thumb, file not found /home/xxxxxx/public_html/folder//images/stories/virtuemart/product/images/stories/virtuemart/product/item_1_4b6f974c744a4.jpg

The path seems to be doubled (2 times images/stories/virtuemart/products......).

If I go directly to the Products> click specific item and then "product images". I can remove the "Used url: images/stories/virtuemart/product/item_1_4b6f974c744a4.jpg", and the product gets the image display (front/back end).

Any idea how to disable the "double path" ('images/sotries/.....images/stories...)?

I tried to remove the "configuration> templates > Product Media URL: but that did not help.
Any other suggestions, greatly appreciated.
