Got an error message saying something like 'Invalid token' when attempting to install into a vanilla 1.7 environment.  Looks like everything is present and working so far.  Any thoughts on this?

Milbo

hmm something like "invalid token" is not really a good info. Can be joomla, can be vm2.

Yes, I agree.  That's why I'm asking.

Just tried an experiment this morning - here's the full message:
Invalid Token, in store config

I think the error message tracks back to Akeeba Core, if using their enhanced 'System Restore Points' plugin.  The error message above appears at this link:

http://www.mystore.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_akeeba&view=installer&task=realinstall&a05095346c360a69844b378ce43873f7=1

So, it would seem that the VM installer and Akeeba aren't working well together.  You might want to check this and at least suggest in the documentation (or with a screen warning) that those running the Akeeba backup core disable their plugin during VM installation.

Hmm, the error "Invalid Token, in store config" looks like a virtuemart one. Did you use the svn?

Okey, I think I found the error, there is a function, which turns off the dangerous database tools. This function calls the configuration and stores it there. The token was not in post, so it throwed the error.

So I take it that everything is alright, then?
