I am totally confused about this Paypal pro setup with virtumart.

Why do I still see credit card information when I select 'Paypal pro' in my checkout process.

I have Credit card option as well and I can understand that the user has to enter credit card information if they select  this option.

When we select paypal radio button in checkout, what is supposed to happen? For me, I select 'Paypal Pro' radio button and still enter credit card information and then click submit. I get 'Your order went thru successfully!'.

Can somebody help me understand how this paypalpro stuff works? and what I am doing wrong with paypal pro.

More info: I have created paypal sandbox business/personal accounts and I can see the orders coming to the business(merchant) account as I have configured paypal pro API correctly in virtuemart.

Thanks
smkrishna

I am highly curious about this myself.  We are looking at a subscription product and since I can't find any answers on how to manage automated or segmented orders we need the functions Pay Pal Pro allows for.

Basically, PayPal Pro is a service that allows the use of their Payment Gateway system through 3rd party applications or custom made applications.

The option you are seeing is called the Direct Payment method. With paypal pro and Direct Payment you are allowed to send the info directly to paypal and have them process it without the user ever leaving your site.

Thus, the need for credit card info, since paypal is still processing it and Direct Payment only accepts credit cards.

You are suppose to also allow your visitors to choose between that or Paypal Express Checkout. Express Checkout still sends the visitor to paypal to enter payment info / confirm payment info, but paypal then sends the visitor back to your site to complete the order. The user has to confirm the order on your site before paypal will process the order.

The only reason to have paypal pro is so the user never has to leave the site to complete the order. Otherwise you can just use express checkout or the standard payment paypal method if you don't mind the user leaving your site to enter payment information.

I hope this helps clears up some of the confusion.

Also one more thing, even though paypal pro allows for subscription based models, the plugin or application has to have implemented the correct paypal calls to allow for it.

The paypal pro plugin I created for vm 1.1 and above only does express checkout and direct payment. However, I think someone else actually did create a vm paypal reoccurring subscription plugin.

Hi Metric,
Do you have a paypal express checkout module.

I don't have a paypal pro account just a regular merchant account with paypal. So I am looking to set up a paypal express checkout.
